In the coming week, the federal and state governments want to meet for the Corona summit. Chancellor Angela Merkel formulated a clear expectation of the talks in advance.

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) calls for uniform and rapid action by the federal and state governments in corona policy. This is urgently needed, especially when using the so-called hospitalization index, she says in her weekly podcast. The federal and state governments would have to “very quickly” set a threshold above which additional steps would have to be initiated.

This threshold must be chosen “wisely so that the necessary measures are not taken too late”. The hospitalization value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants have to be treated with a corona infection in hospital within seven days. It is considered an important yardstick for the pandemic situation.

Once again, Merkel urged people in Germany to get vaccinated. “If we stand together, if we think of our own protection and caring for others, then we can save our country a lot this winter,” she said on her podcast. In addition, a “national effort” is necessary in order to proceed quickly with the booster vaccinations. “Too little, disappointingly little has happened here in the past few months.” The booster vaccinations are a “real chance to break the severe autumn and winter wave of the pandemic,” said the Chancellor.
