7 dead, 1 critically injured after shootings at 2 farms in Half Moon Bay in CA; suspect in custody

HALF MOON BAY, California — Seven people are dead and one seriously injured after shootings at two farms in northern California’s Half Moon Bay Monday afternoon, a source confirmed to ABC7 News in the Bay Area.

One person is dead and three critically injured in the first shooting at Mountain Mushroom Farm. All of the injured are on their way to Stanford Medical Center, the source said.

The source says three people are dead in the second shooting at Concord Farms.

The suspect was arrested, sheriff’s officials said.

Zhao Chunli, 67, was arrested in a shooting in Half Moon Bay, according to San Mateo County chief David Canepa.

A source told ABC7 News that the suspect worked at one of the mushroom farms and all of the victims were colleagues

The shooter acted alone. They say that when first responders got to the area, the shooter left for the second shooting site.

The incidents were reported near Highway 92 and the Half Moon Bay city limits.

The Google Earth map shows the first scene, reportedly located at Mountain Mushroom Farm on San Mateo Road near Highway 1.

Locals tell us it’s a marijuana farm.

The second location is south of downtown. CAL FIRE says they are at 2125 Cabrillo Highway.

We are told that the Holy Family Children’s Center has been on lockdown since approximately 3:20pm

Officials there say authorities have told them they are looking for a man in a red SUV.

Congresswoman Anna Eshoo released the following statement following the shooting in her Half Moon Bay congressional district:

“I continue to watch the tragedy unfolding in Half Moon Bay. My thanks to the San Mateo Sheriff’s Office for taking the suspect into custody and working at the two murder scenes. “Half Moon Bay is a loved and close-knit community and we all stand with them and the families of the victims at this dark hour.”
