A £ 33 million shipment of cocaine was found in a shipment of onion rings to the UK.

Border officials found the 418 kg of drugs when they stopped a truck on its way to the Channel Tunnel in Coquelles, northern France, last Thursday.

30-year-old Piotr Perzenowski from Poland was charged with smuggling Class A drugs following an investigation by the National Crime Agency.

He appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court in Kent on Saturday morning and was remanded in custody in Canterbury Crown Court on December 13th.

The NCA branch ordered Mark Howes, “This was a really significant amount of drugs that had been withdrawn.

“The confiscation deprives the organized crime responsible for them of the profit that would have led to further criminal offenses.

“Working with our partners like Border Force, we will continue to address the Class A drug threat in our mission to protect the public.”
