The three people were arrested Thursday night for entering the country illegally, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

July 29 (News) — Authorities said three people were arrested during the annual congressional baseball game on charges of blocking an entrance to Nationals Park in Washington, DC.

Dozens of climate activists calling for action on climate change were at the stadium before the game and had tried to prevent others from entering, the Washington Post reported.

The protest was organized after Senator Joe Manchin, DW.Va., and Senate Democrat Chairman Chuck Schumer of New York reached agreement on a budget spending bill that included energy programs, tax policy changes and funds to address climate change .

According to NBC news, protesters have called on President Joe Biden to declare a climate emergency while also expressing anger at politicians putting corporate interests ahead of the environment.

A day before the game, US Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger issued a statementand said officers were aware of a possible demonstration and would not tolerate violence or unlawful conduct.

“We are urging anyone who is thinking of causing trouble at the charity game to stay home,” he said.

In the end, Republicans would beat Democrats 10-0 in the long-running game that pits the two political parties of the United States against each other for charity.
