China has imposed tough new lockdown measures in Shanghai as the country ramps up efforts to prevent a new round of coronavirus infections after they returned to a two-year high in May.

The Asian superpower has taken some of the most drastic measures since the pandemic began in recent weeks, despite its caseload compared to other major countries, because it has committed itself to an uncompromising “zero Covid” strategy.

The recent spike in cases is believed to be due to Omicron, which is reportedly the dominant variant that has stalked the UK over Christmas and New Year.

First detected in southern Africa in November 2021, it quickly spread across the world last December, proving that it is more easily transmissible but less serious than its parent strain.

Here we take a look at some of the most common symptoms associated with the fully vaccinated variant – and two early warning signs you may have.

The most common symptoms in fully vaccinated individuals

Researchers in Norway conducted a study in which they interviewed 111 out of 117 guests at a party on November 26, 2021 that saw an omicron outbreak. Of the group surveyed, 66 had definite cases of Covid-19 and 15 had possible cases of the virus.

Of the 111 participants, 89 percent had received two doses of an mRNA vaccine and none had received a booster shot.

According to the results published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology euro surveillancethere were eight key symptoms experienced by the group of fully vaccinated partygoers.

These were: persistent cough, runny nose, tiredness, sore throat, headache, muscle aches, fever and sneezing.

The study found that cough, runny nose and fatigue were among the most common symptoms among the vaccinated individuals, while sneezing and fever were the least common.

Public health experts also added nausea to that list of symptoms in vaccinated individuals who contracted the Omicron variant.

Although the vaccine protects against the more serious risks of the virus, it is still possible to contract Covid even if you have had both vaccinations and a booster shot.

The mild nature of the symptoms makes it difficult for people to distinguish the virus from a common cold.

But according to Professor Tim Spector, who is behind the ZOE Symptom Study app, about 50 percent of the “new colds” right now are actually Covid.”

Two early warning signs that you may have Omicron

Experts also suggest that there are two distinct symptoms that could be a sign a positive test is imminent: tiredness and dizzy or fainting spells.

In addition to simply feeling tired, exhaustion can also lead to physical aches and pains by causing aching or weak muscles, headaches, and even blurred vision and loss of appetite.

dr Angelique Coetzee, a private practitioner and chair of the South African Medical Association, said Good morning Britain that fatigue was one of the main symptoms of Omicron when the variant broke out in South Africa.

According to a survey by WebMD that asked users how often they had experienced fatigue from December 23, 2021 to January 4, 2022, 40 percent of women said they had struggled with fatigue due to Covid, compared with a third of the men.

Dizziness or fainting are the second signs that you may have Omicron.

A report from Germany recently suggested there could be a link between fainting spells and Omicron after doctors in Berlin found Covid was triggering recurring dizzy spells in a 35-year-old patient who was hospitalized.

German newspaper medical newspaper said doctors could see a “clear link” between the infection and the fainting spells.
