A BUSINESS woman struggled for her life after undergoing acupuncture to relieve the pain in her neck.
Jessika Aldrey Germiniani had to undergo emergency surgery after a lung perforation.
The 26-year-old registered for a session on October 11th in the city of Sorriso in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso.
Only a few hours after the treatment, the single mother was in pain and struggled to catch her breath.
She then had to go to the hospital and had emergency surgery because of a collapsed lung.
Jessika is currently still in the hospital and is receiving a chest tube to drain her pleural space.
In an interview with the G1 news portal, she said: “I was scared when the doctor said I needed an emergency operation. I started crying, I got a shock.
“I have a five-year-old son who could have stayed without a mother today. The doctor said I have a new life.”
After looking for a massage therapist to help relieve her neck pain, Jessica found a practitioner who, she said, insisted on acupuncture.
Jessika added, “I was in great pain at the time, but she said it was part of the procedure and let me go home.
“At the same time I got pain and shortness of breath. I came home and tried to lie down but couldn’t and the breathlessness increased. “
Jessika remembered her jump to the hospital and said the doctor told her that if she had not come to the hospital immediately, she would have died.
If your probe is permanently removed, it will need to be examined by a physical therapist.
Many experts have called acupuncture, a component of traditional Chinese medicine, a pseudoscience. Several studies and practice reviews suggest it is not effective.
It is unclear whether Jessica’s masseuse, whose identity has not been reported, is awaiting legal action or a police investigation.
