It’s the day after Thanksgiving 2021 – better known as Black Friday. While it’s not a federal holiday, many will wonder if mail will be delivered today, Friday, November 26th, or if post offices are open. The answer to both questions is yes.
Mail is still being delivered today and post offices will be open at their regular hours. Because Black Friday is not a federal holiday, even if many like to take the day shopping.
According to the USPS holiday schedule, the postal service is closed on New Years Day, Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. On days when the post office is closed, you can still visit the self-service kiosk and pay the postage or hand in something to post in the kiosk. And you can still check your mailbox yourself as most of the lobbies are open. To find an available self-service kiosk near you, go to the Post Office Locator on USPS.com.
However, today is not a federal holiday, so you will still receive mail today. And you can also go to your local post office if you want to send a package or pick something up.
Both FedEx and UPS are also open, delivering parcels and mail today on Black Friday 2021.
UPS’s Holiday Schedule advises that there will be no pick-up or delivery services on Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. UPS notes that for the day after Thanksgiving on November 26th, “UPS pickup and delivery services are available. The UPS Store locations are open. “
However, UPS offers pickup or delivery services on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Juniteenth, Columbus Day (also known as Indigenous People’s Day), and Veterans Day. And of course also on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
The only service UPS definitely offers on public holidays when it is closed is UPS Express Critical. UPS Express Critical Service includes air, land, charter, hand transportation, international security, insider precision and value-added service options. This service is available around the clock, 365 days a year.
According to FedEx’s holiday schedule, delivery services are only closed on New Years Day, Boxing Day, Thanksgiving, Labor Day, July 4th, Memorial Day, and a few other holidays.
FedEx advises that they will be offering all of their services for the day after Thanksgiving on November 26th except FedEx Freight, which is closed today.
However, some of their other services are changing today. FedEx Express is now offering a modified service that includes “early on-call and pick-up in some areas”.
In addition, FedEx Office changed its opening hours today. The website states that the office locations will be “open at 7am or at their regular time”. FedEx advises that you should call your local FedEx office beforehand for details.
All other services are running as usual today: FedEx Ground, FedEx Home Delivery, FedEx Smart Post, FedEx Custom Critical and FedEx Trade Networks.
The FedEx Custom Critical Service will generally continue to be available on all bank holidays, including bank holidays when FedEx does not offer regular delivery. According to FedEx, Custom Critical is “same day, overnight delivery of express freight”.
