Will the mail be delivered on June 16, 2022 this year? Are USPS post offices open? The post office is normally closed on federal holidays, but since June 16 technically falls on Sunday, June 19, many people are wondering what will happen on Monday, June 20.

June 16 is a federal holiday that falls on June 19 of each year. It was declared a national holiday for the first time last year. Since June 19 falls on a Sunday this year, the holiday is technically observed on Monday, June 20. This means that no mail will be delivered today.

According to the USPS holiday schedule, the Postal Service operates on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, Washington’s Birthday (aka President’s Day), Memorial Day, June 16, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day , on Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. However, USPS has a double asterisk next to its listing for National Independence Day on June 16, stating: “The 16th National Independence Day is recognized as a holiday eligible for full-time and part-time USPS employees. Compliance will be incorporated into Employee and Labor Relations Manual (ELM) 518, Holiday Leave, and will be subject to the relevant section provisions.”

Although post offices are closed and there is no customer service on public holidays, most post office lobbies remain open. This allows people to check their mailboxes even when the post office itself is closed and gives them the option of using self-service kiosks.

To find a self-service kiosk near you, go to the Post Office Locator on USPS.com. Under Location Type, select Self-Service Kiosks from the drop-down menu. Then enter your city and state or zip code. Then, under the “Within” category, select how far you are willing to travel and click “Search”. You can use these kiosks to buy postage and drop off packages, even though they don’t technically ship today.

If you’re wondering about other services, both FedEx and UPS are open for business today.

FedEx is open today. June 16 is not listed on the website as one of the public holidays affecting FedEx’s schedule. Holidays listed on the site include Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Good Friday through Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.

UPS services are also available today, June 20th, although you may want to check your local UPS shop just to be sure. UPS’s holiday calendar lists June 16, but not the federally observed date of June 20. Instead, the holiday calendar notes that no UPS pickup or delivery service was offered on Sunday, June 19, on the holiday itself. The website also notes that some business locations may also have changed business hours.

Other holidays that may affect UPS’s schedule include Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Valentine’s Day, Presidents Day, Good Friday through Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples Day (Columbus Day), Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.
