Shrinking is a new series on Apple TV+ coming soon. “Shrinking” tackles some important issues, including mental illness, grief and terminal illnesses, in comedy form. There weren’t many shows that successfully covered these two subjects in a single show. ‘Web Therapy’ (2011-2015) almost successfully dabbled in just comedy in the therapy line. That would be an interesting approach. This is an original series created by ‘Scrubs’ star Bill Lawrence and ‘Ted Lasso’ star Brett Goldstein.

What happens when a therapist who is supposed to help troubled patients with their problems finds themselves in the same position? And what if he continues to ignore all rules, training and ethics and starts breaking the rules with his clients? What would happen if a therapist became extremely honest in a session helping their patients? Those are the questions raised in this comedy starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford.

When will “Shrinking” premiere?

“Shrinking” premieres exclusively on Friday, January 27th.

“Shrinking” is exclusively available on Apple TV+ and you can stream the series on the streaming platform mentioned above. The app can also be downloaded from Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store. Apple TV+ is also available on select ROKU streaming players, Playstation, Xbox Store, Chromecast Google TV, Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV, Smart TVs, BT TV, Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream.

Sometimes you have to break down to make a breakthrough. In this 10-part series, as shown in the trailer, the main character, Jimmy, is helplessly hitting rock bottom, and ironically, he’s a therapist. His work and life are now at stake as the painful memory of his wife weighs on him. And how he finds a way to turn over a new leaf for himself and his patients forms the core of the series. And the official synopsis of the series, according to Apple TV+ reads: “Jimmy struggles with grieving the loss of his wife while being a father, friend and therapist. He decides to try a new approach with everyone in his path: unfiltered, brutal honesty. Can he help himself by helping others? Will it bring him back to light?”

“Shrinking” has an amazing cast. Jason Segel plays Jimmy (James Laird), the grief therapist, and Harrison Ford plays Dr. Paul Rhodes, Jimmy’s boss who runs the therapy practice. The expansive cast also includes Lukita Maxwell as Alice, Jessica Williams as Gabrielle Evans, Luke Tennie as Sean, Michael Urie as Brian, Christa Miller as Liz, Heidi Gardner as Grace, Lilian Bowden as Tia and Ted McGinley as Derek.

Shrinking reviews are finally out, and critics are hailing the series for its heartwarming approach to grief. Entertainment Weekly’s review praised the show, adding, “Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein deliver more emotional humor with the Apple TV+ series Shrinking, a funny, smart grief com about the power – and dangers – of radical honesty.”
