Discovery Channel’s Shark Week 2022 is just around the corner – and here are all the important details for those who want to follow the event.
Shark Week, as the name suggests, is an entire week of the channel’s programming dedicated to the fascinating creatures of sharks. The annual summer event, originally broadcast in 1988, is now in its 35th year and has become a cultural phenomenon.
Today, it is the longest-running cable television programme in history and regularly attracts millions of viewers.
This year’s edition premieres on 24 July and includes approximately 25 hours of original programming hosted by Master of Ceremonies Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. There will also be a podcast to listen to and a competition to win a shark diving trip for two and $20,000 in cash.
Below you will find the programme for this year’s Shark Week:
You can catch Shark Week on the Discovery Channel if you have it on cable or satellite. Alternatively, you can stream the event with a subscription to Discovery+.
Currently, Discovery+ offers the first two months for $0.99/month, after which you will be charged $4.99/month.
Another option is to sign up for an Unlimited plan with Verizon, which gives you free access to Discovery+ for six months. If you are already an Unlimited member, you can also get access later.
One of the highlights of Shark Week 2022 is the “Island of the Walking Sharks” with broadcaster, adventurer and conservationist Forrest Galante.
The program, which premieres July 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, follows Galante on his voyage to Papua New Guinea, where epaulette sharks can “walk” ashore.
“These sharks typically prefer to move, using their pectoral and pelvic fins to walk on the sea floor, rather than swimming like we see in most other shark species. Several species have even been documented emerging in isolated tidal pools and reefs—none in Papua New Guinea,” Galante said persons.
Shark Week will also feature a show hosted by the Impractical Jokers. The Impractical Jokers Shark Week Spectacular program will air Tuesday, July 26 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
“This year, Shark Week brings the laughs and the facts! The Impractical Jokers have spent a decade trying to challenge and humiliate one another, and now they’re ready to use their antics for the greater good — shark education!” reads a description of the show.
“For the first time, these comedians take on Shark Week and embark on a hysterical adventure that only the Impractical Jokers can come up with.”
