Real Housewives of Orange County star Dr. Jen Armstrong has filed for a divorce from her husband Ryne Holliday and is seeking custody of their three children, Heavy court documents show.

Armstrong, 45, filed for divorce in Orange County Family Court in late May after previously filing for legal separation, which is required before a divorce in California. Armstrong and Holliday have been married since 2013. They have three children, including 10-year-old twins Vera and Vince, and a 9-year-old son, Robert. Holliday, an Illinois native, is a former college basketball player and professional poker player who now works in the travel industry as president of Hawaii Hideaways, according to the company’s website.

The couple’s marital troubles were documented during season 16 of Bravo’s “RHOC,” the first year that Armstrong, a cosmetic dermatologist and CEO of a plastic surgery practice, starred. A source told Page Six: “There was no specific trigger for the filing. Following their initial trial breakup in September, Jen and Ryne were still in limbo, and Jen felt she had to take this step to improve their family dynamic. The problems they had are the same problems that played out on the show. But everything is amicable and they are committed to keeping their children stable and happy.”

The couple have been legally separated since April 6, 2022, according to court filings filed by Armstrong’s attorney. The legal basis for the divorce is given by the court document as “irreconcilable differences”. Holliday has not responded to the divorce petition and it was not immediately clear if he hired an attorney to represent him in the proceedings.

In the court filing, Armstrong’s attorneys are asking that she be awarded legal custody of the couple’s three children. She has also applied for custody. They have asked that Holliday be allowed to have child visitations, also known as parental leave, court filings show.

During season 16 of RHOC, Armstrong said of her husband, “Ryne and I have an unconventional relationship. He always puts being a father above everything else. Sometimes before you’re a husband.” At another point, Armstrong revealed that her husband and children had gone to an end of summer dinner together without her. The show also documented Holliday packing up and moving out of her home.

Armstrong said during the show, “I think we both want it to work, but we don’t know how to make it work. … I’m going to fight for my marriage and relationship because I don’t want to fail.” On the season-ending reunion, Armstrong said, “It was interesting to watch the show because it was almost therapeutic to be like, ‘S** *, we need to change that. It’s just going too far and we’re both very unhappy.'”

She added that her husband didn’t like being in front of the camera. “He said, ‘I don’t succeed when I try to get deep and talk about emotions, and I don’t want to fail on camera.'” other cast members said when they met him before the show he was personable and outgoing, but he was more introverted and shy in front of the cameras.

A representative from Armstrong and Holliday told E! News, “Jen and Ryne are focused on their family and are on good terms right now.” When it was previously reported that the couple had split, a rep told E! News: “Jen has been trying to address some communication issues that she and Ryne have been struggling with for quite some time. After failing to overcome these problems. Jen recently decided it’s best to move forward as co-parents rather than husband and wife. Their children have always been and will continue to be their priority as they learn to live apart.”

A source told E! News that the couple would be undergoing therapy. The source added, “While ‘Real Housewives of OC’ didn’t contribute to any issues between Jen and Ryne, it did force them to watch how they interact. … While they are sad, they know this is for the best for now.”
