Fans were completely surprised and upset by Ryan’s departure from The Bachelorette season 19.

Clayton Echard may not be a part of The Bachelorette’s ongoing season 19, but his spirit continues to haunt The Bachelor Nation franchise. From the constant references to him from current bachelors Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia, to the striking resemblance some of the suitors bear to the Bachelor’s graduate, it seems like Clayton is an important part of the season.

After canceling the rose ceremony in the pilot episode, Rachel and Gabby decided to host the first rose ceremony of the season. The rose ceremony featured some very surprising and unexpected outcomes such as Mario Vassall appearing to have caught Gabby’s gaze as he presented the final rose to Ryan Mula who was shown the door. Fans were particularly surprised to see the 36-year-old’s departure as they felt Ryan and Gabby had a special bond. To explain the unexpected departure, several fans have concluded that Gabby and Rachel may have kicked Ryan off the dating show due to his striking resemblance to Clayton.

One fan tweeted, “Bye Clay – I mean Jesse – sorry RYAN #TheBachelorette.” Another fan wrote, “Ryan reminded her too much of Clayton so he had to say goodbye to #TheBachelorette.” Clayton. I love @pilot__rachel and @GabrielaWindey they are amazing! #TheBachelorette,” stressed one fan.

Fans were completely surprised and upset by Ryan’s elimination. One fan shared: “Really shocked Gabby ditched Ryan – they seemed to have a cool hookup night 1?? Did I miss something??? #TheBachelorette.” “Wow, Mario went from the first to the last rose! And I’m shocked at Ryan when he and Gabby seemed to be clicking #TheBachelorette during the week,” added one fan. “Okay I thought Gabby really liked Ryan #TheBachelorette,” one fan commented. “MEATBALLS OVER RYAN?!?!? A MAN CALLED MEATBALLS PLZ BE SERIOUS #TheBachelorette,” commented one disgruntled fan. “Kind of sad that Ryan #TheBachelorette was sent home,” explained one fan.

But fans aren’t ready to let go of Ryan just yet. Many fans were hoping for a return for the Bostonian in the spinoff series Bachelor in Paradise. One fan shared: “Okay was that Ryan? Do we think he’s going to paradise? #TheBachelorette.” “Ryan is better in paradise #thebachelorette,” seconded one fan.
