“What I would like to see is that while Bond will continue to be a male, the female roles in the Bond films would come to life differently.”
‘The Gray Man’ star Ana de Armas opened up about the need for a female Bond role, and the actress was blunt about it not being necessary. After playing a Bond girl herself in Daniel Craig’s No Time To Die, the 34-year-old received positive reviews for her role as Paloma, a secret agent who helps Bond on his mission to Cuba.
De Armas was the last in the long list of Bond girls, playing the role alongside Léa Seydoux and Lashana Lynch (who is also 007 in the film). While Blade Runner 2049 may have caught her attention, she is best known for her prominent role as Marta on Knives Out. Now she teams up with Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in The Russo Brothers’ highly anticipated Netflix action blockbuster.
Speaking to The Sun, De Armas said: “There’s no need for a female Bond.” This is a novel and it takes you into this James Bond world and this fantasy of this universe that it’s in.’ However, she advocated roles with more depth and substance. “What I would like to see is that, while Bond will continue to be a man, the female roles in the Bond films would be brought to life differently,” De said Armas explains.
In The Gray Man, De Armas plays CIA agent Dani Miranda, who sees the mission as a big deal for her career. The preparation for the role was so extensive that she even turned to a real CIA agent to better prepare for the role. There might have been a little giveaway too, as she said the Russo Brothers considered it a franchise.
The official synopsis reads: “The Gray Man is CIA agent Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling), aka Sierra Six. Broken out of federal prison and recruited by his superior, Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), Gentry was once a highly qualified man. But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, that of Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a former CIA operative , hunted around the world, who will stop at nothing to take him down Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas) is behind him. He’s going to need it.”
