History was made on the first night of Season 21 combat rounds of “The Voice” with the very first three-way steal and save.

Blake Shelton said it was the first time in the show’s history that all four coaches had pressed their buttons during the Battle Rounds. It started with a fight for Team Kelly: Girl Named Tom versus Kinsey Rose in the performance of The Eagles’ “Seven Bridges Road”.

The trainers gave the performance a standing ovation. John Legend said that while he was more attracted to the sound of Girl Named Tom, Kinsey Rose was actually the better soloist. Kelly Clarkson had to make a very difficult decision. She selected Girl Named Tom, but then used her one save from the Battles on Kinsey Rose.

John Legend and Blake Shelton came in to steal Kinsey almost simultaneously. With three coaches to choose from, Kinsey clearly had tears in his eyes. But Ariana Grande then dropped in to say that she really loved Kinsey’s performance too, and felt weird being the only one who didn’t stand in for her.

Grande then hit her buzzer and officially made it a three-way steal. Despite choosing all four coaches, Kinsey decided to stay with Clarkson and said, “Kelly saved me twice.” Time will tell if Kinsey made the right decision.

Clarkson and Grande have both used their only battle round saving throw. Clarkson used hers on Kinsey and Grande used hers on Bella DeNapoli. Bella faced Katie Rae in a performance of “No More Tears” that made Grande emotional. She was choked on giving Katie and Bella her feedback. Legend and Shelton haven’t used their saved games yet.

The only other theft of the night came when Clarkson declared Jeremy Rosado the winner of his fight against Jershika Maple. Jeremy and Jershika performed Justin Bieber’s Hold On. Both Legend and Grande came in to steal Jershika.

The first night of the Battle Rounds ended with a cliffhanger. With both Legend and Grande up for grabs, who will Jershika choose as her new coach?

Find out on Tuesday, October 12th at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on NBC.

On the first night there was a total of six fights and only three participants were eliminated. The other contestants who lost their battles were either rescued or stolen.

Night One’s retired candidates were KJ Jennings, The Joy Reunion, and Chavon Rogers.

Team Legend’s KJ battled Samuel Harness and performed “I Know What You Did Last Summer” by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. Legend ultimately believed that Samuel had a more unique sound.

Team Blake’s Joy Reunion competed against Peedy Chavis with “Joy to the World” by Three Dog Night. The trainers were impressed by Peedy’s stage presence. Clarkson said she couldn’t take her eyes off him.

Team Ariana’s Chavon Rogers fought David Vogel and performed “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” by Fall Out Boy. Grande said she could hear David’s voice on pop radio.
