While the overall picture is set to kill Homelander, the backlash mounts, making the hour-long episode an overwhelming affair
Contains spoilers for The Boys Season 3 Episode 4 Glorious Five Year Plan
Glorious Five Year Plan sets the tone for what promises to be a smashing second half of The Boys Season 3. Taking down a deranged and dangerous Homelander (Anthony Starr) turns out to be a lot harder than it looks on paper. Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) leaves a mark, with some consequences, and the show sees the death of a new character. Hughie (Jack Quaid) and Butcher (Karl Urban) pull off an action that angers the rest of the boys. While the overall picture is set to kill Homelander, the backlash mounts, making the hour-long episode an overwhelming affair.
‘The Boys’ has always relied on the element of surprise to compensate for the blood he unabashedly squirts on screen or the unbridled dose of sex. This time, the latter factor takes a backseat, but the episode instead focuses on an action that serves as a temporary distraction. There is betrayal in both camps and that makes things worse, especially for Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and the Boys.
‘The Boys’ Season 3: ‘Is That Charlize Theron?’ Cameo Leaves Fans Baffled
With Butcher looking dangerously addicted to the temporary Compound V, the boys are in a mess. Jumping on the super train is Hughie, who gets a taste of his powers as they embark on a mission to find Soldier Boy, and it ends badly for Kimiko as she learns firsthand the damage he can do. She takes the full power of an energy blast and does not heal, indicating a sad fate for the character. If Kimiko dies, it will portend the first major death of the season. Using the link is sure to cause some friction between Hughie and Starlight as well.
The fourth episode is all about the domino effect that some of the actions will have. Each character has their plans and the execution has consequences. Going against Vought and Homelander will mean Hughie’s death – an example of this was made from Supersonic’s death. Homelander kills the newest Super on the block after A-Train’s desperation to please him sees him reveal the hatched plans to defeat the leader of the seven. As far as speculation goes, Queen Maeve and A-Train will surely be casualties by the end of the season. It seems that they have accepted this fate, but only time will tell if this will turn out to be true.
Victoria Neunman’s intentions are still unclear. She sides with Homelander in giving her daughter the temporary estate, and there’s still reason to believe she may eventually turn against him. There’s much to speculate about, but what is certain is that this episode promises to be a scary but delightful season.
The Boys Season 3 Episodes 1-4 will stream on Amazon Prime Video.
