At an award ceremony in Berlin, Monika Grütters surprised with a male companion. The Minister of State for Culture presented her new boyfriend to the photographer for the first time on the red carpet.
Monika Grütters walked the red carpet on Saturday evening in a black dress with patterned tights and gold jewelry. But it wasn’t her outfit that caused a sensation at the Prize for Understanding and Tolerance at the Jewish Museum in Berlin, it was her companion.
Because at the side of the Minister of State for Culture, a man in a black suit with a matching bow tie and white shirt smiled. He gently put his hand around her waist as they posed for the cameras together.

“His name is Doctor Benedikt Bridegroom”, the politician of the “Bild” newspaper introduced her companion. “But don’t take the bridegroom too seriously yet.” It is the first time that the 59-year-old shows her new love on the red carpet. “I have good reasons to bring him,” she said with a smile.
Not much is known about the CDU politician’s private life. All these years she was considered single. When asked why she never married, she said with a laugh last year: “That was probably because of the men.”
She has no children either. “That just didn’t happen,” said the 59-year-old. “As a mother, however, I probably wouldn’t have made it to the position of Minister of State in the Chancellery. I admire women who can combine children and careers at a high level.” The cultural politician has six sponsored children for this.
