Bravo re-enters the matchmaking game, this time with an overseas twist. The network that hosted the original Millionaire Matchmaker will now try to help unhappily in love Americans find their soul mates abroad. To do this, they work with matchmakers who aim to find their “one ideal match”.

It has to be possible without obvious geographic boundaries – right? We assume that this is the intrigue of what is to come love without Borders. Even if the experience doesn’t end in a love match for everyone, investing in their love life must be enticing.

Finally, international matchmaking services can come with a hefty price tag if you’re footing the bill yourself. For most people, the option of working with an international love professional would not be financially viable.

love without Borders features six participants who are willing to give up life as they know it and move to an unknown destination in hopes of reuniting with their “perfect” life partner, according to Bravo. Each performer will board a plane to an unknown destination to possibly meet their future love match. It reminds us a bit of TLC’s 90 day fiancebut vice versa.

In the original press release about the new reality show, Bravo called LLB a “bold social experiment”. Participants will leave their jobs, homes, and loved ones behind for a set amount of time (no word on how long it will be). At the end of the so-called experiment, they make the choice to either continue their life abroad to find new love, or to return home.

It’s unclear if the travelers will be paired with multiple matches during their stay abroad, or if they’ll be looking for sparks with just one person to fly. However, Bravo states that they will work with matchmakers who will scour the globe for the perfect match on their behalf.

Modern matchmaking is alive and well, especially after the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic shutdowns. The industry is still pretty tight-lipped about their success rates, but today’s matchmaking firms often use a mix of technology-based algorithms and traditional human touch to find matches.

Some specialize in setting up dates, or “matches,” while others simply do the heavy lifting for your online dating profiles, Esquire reports. If you’re willing to pay, services like VIDA Select will set up these profiles, screening candidates and even creating the opening messages most likely to get a response.

The price range for professional matchmaking services can be staggering. According to Consumer Affairs, you can expect to spend $5,000 to $50,000 a year if you want to be paired by a professional. But that’s not all, that’s where the cost ends depending on what you’re looking for. Typically, international searches are considered a luxury service at a premium price.

VIDA Select has published a summary of costs and services for a variety of United States-based matchmaking services. They have a clear interest in it: of the services listed, theirs seems fairly flexible in scope and relatively affordable for the industry. Basic packages with the company start at $995 per month, or just under $12,000 per year. “Elite” options reach just over $40,000 per year.

A handful of VIDA Select’s competitors have really mind-blowing prices, although they claim to have a more personal touch and higher success rates. Selective Search, for example, typically ranges from $25,000 to $50,000 per year. The company’s more customized options can cost up to $1 million. Literally.

But the company told Esquire it has an 87% success rate — a self-proclaimed industry record — and the right flair to find lasting matches. “It’s almost like self-service at a grocery store compared to having someone actually cook you gourmet food, organic, farm-to-plate, in your home,” Founder and CEO Barbie Adler told the magazine.

The matchmaking options don’t stop there. Other companies, like Kelleher International, have global search agreements starting at $125,000. The exact number of games depends on the individual, but typically ranges from 8-13 over the course of the contract. Janis Spindel’s Serious Matchmaking can include global reach searches costing up to a million dollars.

Bravo has not yet released details on the matchmakers’ family trees love without Bordersbut it’s safe to say that contestants might consider switching countries and starring in the show because they offer professional matchmaking services as part of the deal.

It’s unclear if they’ll put their own money into the effort, but many reality TV series offer these types of services in exchange for appearing. All in all, it could be considered a great deal, even if the experience doesn’t end in a long-term relationship.

love without Borders Premieres on Bravo on Wednesday, November 30th at 9pm ET and streams on Peacock.
