The House Committee, which is investigating the January 6th Capitol Hill riots, announced that it would continue proceedings against Trump’s ally Steve Bannon for criminal disregard.

Trump’s former adviser was due to testify before the committee Thursday, but did not do so after Bannon’s attorney told them he would not cooperate because ex-President Donald Trump instructed him not to do so.

He also claimed to have executive privilege despite Trump stepping down from office almost a year ago.

In a statement, Capitol chairman Bennie Thompson said Bannon “declined to work with the special committee and is instead hiding behind the former president’s inadequate, blanket and vague statements about privileges he allegedly invoked.”

“We completely oppose his position,” Thompson continued. “The Special Committee will not tolerate opposing our subpoenas, so we must continue the process to expel Mr Bannon for criminal contempt.”

The dubious claim got people going to Twitter and within minutes the “LOCK HIM UP” started trending and flooding feeds.

One said, “WHY DO YOU WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK TO VOTE? CALL THE COMMITTEE TOGETHER AND VOTE NOW! Steve Bannon has openly opposed a January 6th House Committee summons. ”

Another added: “Steve Bannon is an outlaw and a traitor to our democracy. He should be imprisoned for life. “

Trump continues to claim that he can invoke the privilege of the executive branch to prevent his ex-employees from testifying before the committee. However, legal experts say the privilege belongs to President Joe Biden alone.

Thompson said the next step would be for the committee to hold a business meeting on October 19 to move forward with criminal disdain.
