Even though the HBO fantasy series aired its finale years ago, it will forever be an important part of Harington’s life. The career-rising role propelled Harington to stardom and introduced him to his wife, Rose Leslie (Ygritte), with whom he has a son.

But when HBO turned out to be expanding its game of Thrones universe with the prequel house of the dragon, Harington originally said it would be “painful” to watch. Now that season one is over, the actor claims they did a “brilliant job.”

In the summer of 2021 – a full year before house of the dragon Premiere – Harington told the Associated Press that it “might be painful” to watch the prequel because “that’s what the emotion is for me.”

“I think seeing people wearing outfits and costumes that are similar to what we’ve worn over the years [on Game of Thrones]and it [has] Same music, same style and same tone, but not being in it is always going to feel — there’s going to be a rawness there,” Harington said, per Insider.

Once Harington got the chance to see the first episodes of house of the dragonHowever, the Brit changed his mind about that predicted pain. While promoting his film Baby Ruby At the Toronto International Film Festival in September, Harington told Entertainment Tonight Canada that he was “really enjoying” house of the dragon.

During a recent meeting with The Hollywood Reporter, the subject was house of the dragon emerged while Harington was discussing his new film project blood for lust. He admitted he hasn’t seen all ten episodes of the first season, but Harington noted that the prequel’s cast and crew did a “brilliant job.”

“You know, I’ve fallen off a bit – not because I don’t enjoy it – but I’ve just been very busy. But I’ll catch up. I’m sort of halfway through the season. I have to watch the second half so I’ll try to avoid any kind of spoilers. I mean it’s great. They did a great job with that. I’m really impressed with this show and how they’ve continued it,” said Harington.

It was reported last summer that Harington had brought with him an idea for a Jon Snow-focused film game of Thrones Sequel series to HBO. His co-star Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and writer George RR Martin both claimed the series was in the early stages of development.

“It was created by Kit, as far as I can understand, so he’s there from the ground up,” Clarke told the BBC. “So what you’re going to see is hopefully certified by Kit Harington.”

On his Not a Blog, Martin confirmed that the Jon Snow sequel is in development and revealed that the series’ working title is “Snow.” He refused to give further details until he had permission to do so. But he said the “second and third drafts” of the script were written and the story takes place after the events of game of Thrones.

“Yes, it’s true,” Martin wrote. “There’s not much more I can tell you, not until HBO gives me the green light. Our working title for the show is SNOW. Yes, it was Kit Harrington who gave us the idea.”

But if THR Harington asked about the sequel, dodging the question entirely.

“I don’t know anything about that. I’m sorry,” Harington said.

All eight seasons of game of Thrones and season 1 of house of the dragon are now playing on HBO Max.
