In the DC comic universe, a superhero comes out as bisexual. Jon Kent, son of Superman and also endowed with superhuman abilities, loves a man.
Friendship turns into love: In a new comic, Superman’s son falls in love with a journalist – and thus celebrates his coming out. Jon Kent, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, is discovering his bisexual identity, announced the publisher DC Comics. Jon Kent is the “Superman of Earth”.
The young superhero made friends with reporter Jay Nakamura in the previous issue of the “Superman: Son of Kal-El” comic series. In the new issue, which will appear in November, there is now a kissing scene between the two. The burnt out young superhero finds support in Jay.
“I have always said that everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes, and I am very grateful that DC and Warner Bros. share this idea,” author Tom Taylor is quoted in a statement from the publisher . He explained that Superman “has always stood for hope, truth and justice” and continued: “Today this symbol stands for something more. Today, more people can recognize themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics.”
The US comics scene seems to strive to depict diversity and different sexual identities. A black, gay hero appears in the “Aquaman” series, while Batman’s assistant Robin recently came out as bisexual.
