With fans no longer allowed to vote from their homes, Twitter questioned whether the show could truly crown “America’s Favorite Dancer.”
The latest season of So You Think You Can Dance finally has its top 12 dancers, and it looks like things are heating up! Season 17 features – “Highly qualified dancers, ages 18-30, showcasing their talent in a variety of dance styles including contemporary, tap, hip-hop, ballroom, animation, breaking and more.” Those selected are allowed to advance into the SYTYCD studio, collaborate with world-renowned choreographers and compete in a variety of styles each week, introducing brand new twists and turns to the competition.

While the show has changed significantly in terms of format and editing, the latest is the fact that fans at home can no longer vote for their favorite performances of the night. The voting process is now in the hands of the studio audience instead. Eliminations are therefore based on a combination of votes and judges’ criticism. For longtime fans of the show, this seemed like a deal breaker as it meant they couldn’t vote for their favorite performances, leading them to wonder if the winner would really be “America’s Favorite Dancer.”
Season 17 of So You Think You Can Dance airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
