Just a few weeks ago, the on-screen team from “Star Trek: Discovery ”on the stage of the New York Comic Con to discuss the new season of their show. The group of DISCO stars included Sonequa Martin-Green (Burnham), Anthony Rapp (Stamets), Mary Wiseman (Tilly), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Culber), David Ajala (Book) and Blu de Bario (Adira). Showrunner and executive producer Michelle Paradise was there too.
When the actors talked about the growth and change in their characters throughout the series, some exciting tidbits leaked through. Heavy Robin Zabiegalski was in New York on October 9th to cover how Ajala and Rapp argued over which character would control the spur drive in season 4.
She also filed a story on Cruz.Season 4 inspiration“And how the doctor would also act as a ship’s advisor. In a way, this is a look back at the original Trek story “The Cage”. The doctor of this show Phil Boyce (John Hoyt) advised Captain Pike (Jeffrey Hunter) when he was not concerned about the welfare of the crew.
Zabiegalski was there when Paradise shared the new season 4 trailer with the audience – which was then shared everywhere from Paramount and CBS social media feeds.
The trailer revealed a new threat to the galaxy that Discovery and its crew must fight. Fans will have to wait to find out more about what these characters can expect in Season 4 – which will be streamed on Paramount + on November 18th.
In the trailer, Captain Burnham says this anomaly is unlike anything the galaxy has ever experienced. There were scenes where the ship flew through unfamiliar regions and parts of space that seemed strange while others looked very familiar.
Thanks to a fan post on Twitter, many speculate what exactly the Discovery flew through. Danny Epperson have made a number of photos in his tweet, the scenes from “Star Trek: The Movie“To scenes from the new Discovery trailer.
To refresh your memory, “The Motion Picture” was about the Enterprise crew who encountered an old NASA probe (Voyager 6) launched in the 1970s. Voyager 6 drifted for 300 years, was found far from Earth by a robot race, and then rebuilt. Voyager’s mission was to collect data and convey it to the “Creator” – humanity. When it returned in a huge ship, surrounded by a galactic storm of electrical interference.
All ships approaching Voyager … or V’Ger Clouds were destroyed. Only the USS Enterprise could face this threat. Kirk (William Shatner), Spock (Leonard Nimoy), and the rest of the crew were able to assist two of their own crew in merging with V’Ger, allowing both of them to transcend.into another dimension“, So the script.
Epperson points out the similarities between the V’Ger memory sequences and the Recordings from the trailer. In the sequences of the film, Spock floated through a huge archive until he finally came across a representation of the V’Ger probe. Spock touched the probe and was thrown back through the archives to the Enterprise.
The return of V’Ger as a threat to all life in the galaxy would be poignant and certainly on par with how “Star Trek: Discovery” has wandered through the storylines. In the first season, Burnham and Saru (Doug Jones) navigated through the Federation / Klingon War Crisis and a Villain from the mirror universe. In Season 2, Burnham and Pike (Anson Mount) team up against an evil AI named steering. Last season the crew was in the 31st century, solving the mystery of “The Burn”.
Uncovering the mysterious “anomaly” as V’Ger could be the twist Discovery producers are known for each season.
As Heavy noted, Mr. Epperson has a keen sense of where Star Trek stories are going and what casting decisions are being made. Recently, Epperson correctly predicted that Uhura would return to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. She is played by actress Celia Rose Gooding.
