A Dancing With the Stars champion shared a serious message on her Instagram Stories after receiving some less than happy comments on social media.
Rumer Willis, who took home the Mirror Ball Trophy alongside her pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy in 2015, often shares all sorts of posts on her social media accounts, from photos to videos and everything in between. However, being a celebrity with an active Instagram account isn’t always fun and entertaining — and Willis got to a point where she felt she had something to say to those leaving her “nasty” comments.
On Saturday, June 4, 2022, Willis spoke to anyone who felt the need to post negativity to their account and politely asked them to “stop.” She made an open post to share on her Instagram stories signed with two xx’s and her nickname “RU”.
Here’s what you need to know:
While Willis seems to have a strong following and her posts are usually full of positivity, she has received some not-so-nice comments. In fact, she said people actually told her she was “ugly” and that she wasn’t a good singer.
“And for those people who feel the need to take the time to write nasty comments about my life or posts telling me I’m ugly or sing badly or make funny faces or have other unkind words, I beg really just loving (sic) about pleasing refrain. Stop and remember I’m a human with feelings and even though I’m on the other side (sic) of a screen it’s still hurtful,” Willis wrote.
“I share myself and my music in as vulnerable a way as possible and want to create a space where this is held with at least the most basic level of respect and human decency and at most a safe place for all who choose to be there,” She added.
Music is an important part of Willis’ life and she has shared some of her vocals and instrumental playing with fans. On May 24, 2022, she shared that she was “out of practice” but played guitar for her father, actor Bruce Willis.
Just days before her message to haters was posted to her Instagram Stories, Willis shared a video of herself performing “How Many Years” with musician Derek Richard Thomas.
“It was so nice to get the opportunity to sing this song, it’s one of my favorite songs. Hope you all enjoy it,” she captioned the post.
Most of the comments on the post were positive.
“Beautiful and poignantly sad song! But the voices together…perfection,” one person wrote.
“Rumer! You are awesome! Damned! You dance like a dream AND you sing like a dream! (PS your hair looks so amazing)” read another comment.
“Didn’t know you could sing Rumer!” added a third Instagram user.
“Please record together. Their voices harmonize perfectly. Like Stevie, your harmony makes the song. I wish I could buy this,” commented another.
