Teen Mom OG star Catelynn Lowell Baltierra teased viewers about her recent take on adopted daughter Carly Davis.
She and her husband Tyler Baltierra previously expressed frustration with their semi-open adoption, saying they felt they were in an “inferior” position when it came to Carly’s parents, Brandon and Teresa Davis. They couldn’t connect with the 12-year-old for nearly two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, but in a new interview, Lowell teased a reunion with Carly caught on MTV.
“We ended up visiting Carly and MTV followed suit. They didn’t film Carly themselves or anything, but they always film us, ”Lowell told E! News from October 12, 2021. “People will be able to see our reaction from the first to the last day, from departure to the start of the visit and the like, which I definitely find important. ”
Baltierra and Lowell, both 29, gave Carly up for adoption in 2009 at the age of 17. The event was documented by MTV for “16 & Pregnant,” and they were one of the first couples to be promoted to MTV’s “Teen Mom,” which premiered in 2009.
Despite having faced various ups and downs over the years, Lowell and Tyler married in August 2015. They now have three other daughters together: 6 year old Nova, 2 year old Vaeda Luma and newborn Rya Rose, who they are welcomed on 08/28
Lowell is grateful to share the adoption process with Teen Mom OG viewers.
“I love showing the journey of an open, semi-open adoption through the years and ups and downs, and learning and navigating that relationship,” she told E! News. “I think it’s great that we can continue to do it so that we can show our fans the trip, but also so that Carly’s parents feel comfortable when we share it.”
Baltierra added that he was unfamiliar with the adoption process until he went through it. “I feel we did a good job opening the door to this conversation and making it more normal and acceptable to receive information,” he told the publication.
During the Teen Mom OG reunion in April 2021, Baltierra said he had to pay attention to his words when speaking to Carly, Teresa and Brandon Davis. He didn’t like having to filter himself, knowing that Carly’s parents could withhold them from him and his wife if he said the wrong thing.
“I feel like whatever happens, I have to filter through Brandon and Teresa first,” Baltierra told Reunion host Dr. Drew Pinsky. “I sometimes don’t trust what I’m about to say, it’s just very difficult to find your way in a relationship and to feel close when you have to question your approach and your performance all the time. It’s fear. “
“It’s also Brandon and Teresa’s responsibility that we approach them so that we can feel comfortable and safe for ourselves,” the Michigan native continued. “Myself and Catelynn have talked about it a lot, we’re almost 30 now and we still feel like this inferior position.”
