Spotify says it is still working on better quality listening to music – but can’t say much more about it.
Recently, many of Spotify’s competitors have added lossless tiers to their services to bring higher quality music to those who want more detail. Both Amazon and Apple Music offer higher quality options, for example
Spotify has also announced that it will bring CD quality to some markets in 2021. It didn’t come out, however, and Spotify didn’t make it clear whether it was postponed or canceled.
Now they say the feature is yet to come – but it has refused to reveal details on how it might actually work.
Spotify has historically tested CD-quality listening to CDs in a trial that asked customers to pay an additional $ 7.50. In most cases, other services did not require additional payment to gain access to better quality listening, and it remains unclear whether Spotify would do the same.
It also declined to give any release date for the new feature.
“We know that you care about high-fidelity audio,” said a moderator on the Spotify forum. “We feel the same way and we look forward to offering premium users a Spotify HiFi experience in the future.
“But we don’t have any timing details to share yet.”
