From 2017 to 2019 James Rodriguez played for FC Bayern Munich. Now he’s playing in the desert state of Qatar. The Colombian had his most important action on Monday – not as a player, but as a medic.

James now plays for the Qatari club Al-Rayyan in the desert state’s premier league. His club met Al-Wakrah on Monday. The sport quickly took a back seat in the game: Ousmane Coulibaly, a player from Al-Wakrah, slumped on his own goal line.

Both his teammates and opponents realized that something bad must have happened. Coulibaly suffered a heart attack. Before doctors and paramedics were at the scene of the accident, the former Bayern star James Rodriguez provided first aid. By shifting Coulibaly’s head, the airways were cleared again.

The Al-Wakrah team doctor has now confirmed how important James’s intervention was.

In a tweet, the association writes that, according to doctor Mukhtar Shabaan, Coulibaly could have died in the situation if the Colombian had not intervened so quickly.

The player was then taken to the hospital and the game was abandoned. Coulibaly is on the mend.

James played 67 games for FC Bayern Munich from 2017 to 2019. The 30-year-old Colombian scored 15 goals. In 2019 James was sold, first went back to Real Madrid and then in the Premier League to Everton FC. The international has been playing in Qatar since last year.
