VfB Stuttgart has to take the next defeat and is in an increasingly precarious situation. Union Berlin does it better – the iron jump to fourth place. Hertha is on the spot. The games at a glance.

After a 0-2 defeat against RB Leipzig, relegation worries at VfB Stuttgart are increasing. The Saxons, on the other hand, are continuing to catch up on the Champions League places. In addition, VfL Wolfsburg cannot win against Hertha BSC either, in the top game Union Berlin beats TSG Hoffenheim.

Here’s how the games went:

TSG Hoffenheim’s winning streak has come to an end. The previous surprise team of the season conceded a defeat after seven unbeaten games with the 1: 2 (1: 1) at home strong FC Union Berlin. The Berliners, who have only lost once in the past 26 games in the Alte Försterei, drew level with the Kraichgauers on points (31).

Attackers Andreas Voglsammer (22nd) and Grischa Prömel (73rd) scored the goals for Union. Hoffenheim took the lead with an own goal from Union defender Timo Baumgartl (17th). The game in the Alte Försterei took place in front of 3,000 fans because Berlin takes a different approach when it comes to spectator regulations. For Union, it was also a successful dress rehearsal for the prestigious round of 16 in the DFB Cup next Wednesday at city rivals Hertha BSC.

Liberation missed, but free fall stopped: VfL Wolfsburg have scored a point in the Bundesliga for the first time in 56 days. After the last six league bankruptcies in a row, coach Florian Kohfeldt’s team fought back 0-0 in the crisis duel against Hertha BSC. The wolves even sniffed at victory, but missed good chances, especially in the first half.

RB Leipzig has ended its misery away from home after more than nine months. Last season’s runners-up won 2-0 (1-0) at VfB Stuttgart, who were threatened with relegation, and continued their race towards a place in the European Cup with their third win under coach Domenico Tedesco. For VfB, who have only won one of their last six games, things are getting more and more dangerous in the relegation battle.

Goalscorer André Silva gave the guests the lead in the eleventh minute with a hand penalty. Christopher Nkunku made it 2-0 with his ninth goal of the season (70′). Leipzig could also thank their extremely strong goalkeeper Peter Gulasci, who prevented the equalizer several times. Most recently, RB won an away game 280 days ago on April 10, 2021 in a 4-1 win in Bremen in the Bundesliga. VfB remained without a goal for the fourth game in a row.

Thanks to a dream comeback from Jeremiah St. Juste, FSV Mainz 05 has overcome its small low and keeps the European Cup places in sight. Coach Bo Svensson’s team defeated promoted VfL Bochum 1-0 (0-0) after two defeats in a row and has been unbeaten in six home games.
