Westbrook residents said the ice sheet, which first formed in the Presumpscot River in 2019, returned to the river this week but has been frozen in place since Wednesday.
Jan 13 (News) – A giant, spinning sheet of ice formed on a Maine river where the phenomenon was previously spotted — and subsequently froze in place.
Riverside restaurant The Frog and Turtle shared video of the slice on Facebook, and Westbrook Mayor Michael Foley posted some aerial photos.
Foley said he hopes the ice sheet will be a magnet for tourists and a boon for local businesses.
“Stay in safe areas, watch it from a distance and we encourage people not to go on the ice under any circumstances,” Foley told NBC Boston.
