The Miami-Dade Police Department said Marine Patrol Unit officer Nelson Silva was responding in the bay near Miami’s Shorecrest area when the unit received a call about a juvenile dolphin in distress.
Jan 13 (News) – A Florida police officer used a pole and knife to rescue a dolphin that became entangled in a fishing net in Biscayne Bay.
Silva drove his patrol boat to the dolphin’s whereabouts and a video posted by police on Facebook shows him catching the net with a pole and pulling it closer to his boat.
The video then shows Silva cutting the net with a knife and freeing the dolphin.
“I got you, mate,” Silva says in the footage.
The dolphin hastily swims away after being freed.
