Does the Omikron variant cause further failures in schools? To prevent this, the education and training union advocates that teachers can also teach in quarantine. But there is a catch.
In view of the rapid spread of the omicron variant of the corona virus, the Education and Science Union (GEW) has warned of further learning gaps in schools. In order to prevent this, affected teachers should also teach from the quarantine in order to “keep the loss of lessons as low as possible”, said GEW boss Maike Finnern of the “Wirtschaftswoche” according to a report on Friday. It is questionable, however, whether the “technical requirements in the school are even available” for such hybrid teaching.
The GEW boss also called for millions to be invested in the provision of masks. Regular changing is important right now, but many children would wear the masks for days. “That’s why we now need a well-stocked special pot with funds from which funds for masks can be accessed quickly and unbureaucratically,” demanded Finnern. “It will certainly cost millions, but safe teaching should be worth it to the federal and state governments.”
