Young mother-of-three Hanna Scigala has died after suffering a fatal anaphylactic attack in front of her children before being rushed to hospital and suffering cardiac arrest
Three children were orphaned after their mother had a fatal allergic reaction to desserts.
The single mom suffered a fatal anaphylactic attack on peanuts while at home with her kids.
Hanna Scigala, 31, was living in Newcastle with her sons, aged 12 and 9, and a daughter, aged 3, before suffering the allergic reaction after an after-dinner treat.
At around 9:30 p.m. on January 4, her children watched the crisis unfold as their mother became unwell.
Hanna’s eldest son quickly texted his grandparents, who called emergency services before rushing over from their nearby home.
The young mother was hospitalized in critical condition and taken to intensive care by ambulance after suffering cardiac arrest.
On Friday, scans showed that Hanna had no brain activity.
Her family made the horrifying decision to say goodbye and turn off her life support.
Hanna’s younger sister Stephanie, 21, told Daily Mail Australia it all “feels like a bad dream”.
She said: “It was absolutely heartbreaking.
“I could not believe it. I couldn’t understand why I was looking at her and she was still breathing, but it was just the machine.
“I just wanted to tell her to wake up.”
Wanting her sister’s selflessness to live on, her mother decided to donate her organs to save other people’s lives.
Stephanie added: “She loved helping people. That was exactly the kind of person Hanna was.”
Hanna suffered from a severe nut allergy as a child, which meant her family had to constantly check lists of ingredients.
The shocked family are still not sure what they ate on the night they were unwell, but it is being investigated as part of the coroner’s report.
Hanna’s children are currently living with their retired grandparents who are trying to figure out how to raise the trio without their mother.
Her two sons, whose father is not in the picture, are staying with their father (76) and mother (62).
Her youngest daughter is in the care of her father.
