The National Center for Guide Dogs near Leamington Spa, England, said the litter of 16 puppies was about double the average number for the breed.
Jan 13 (News) – A British service dog charity said officials were shocked when a German shepherd gave birth to a litter of 16 puppies.
The charity said the puppies, who were born to a German Shepherd mother and Golden Retriever father, will spend time in voluntary foster homes and be trained as guide dogs.
The Guide Dogs National Center said the litter was the largest in the 60-year history of the charity’s breeding program.
Guinness World Records lists the largest litter in history with 24 puppies born in 2004 in Cambridgeshire, England.
