There are evidently fears in NATO that Russia could attack the West beyond Ukraine. According to a report, the defense alliance would be poorly equipped for this emergency.

NATO insiders apparently fear that Russia could attack on several fronts and look beyond Ukraine to the conflict with the West. This is reported by the “Spiegel”. Diplomats from several states of the military alliance reported to the news magazine that there were fears that the Russian armed forces could use their recently increased presence in the Mediterranean, North Atlantic and Arctic to strike across the board.

The insiders expect disinformation campaigns and cyber attacks in this case. At the moment, however, there are no concrete indications that such an attack is being prepared, writes the “Spiegel”. In an emergency, however, NATO would not have to quickly counteract Russia, either militarily or digitally.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had gathered around 100,000 soldiers on the border with Ukraine in the past few months. In the country and in NATO, there have been fears of an imminent attack since then.
