A 72-year-old man dies after being hit by a car in North Lanarkshire

A 72-year-old man died in North Lanarkshire on Thursday after being hit by a car.

He was hit by a car on Whifflet Street, Coatbridge at around 7.20pm on Thursday 13 January.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Less than an hour before this incident, another fatal road accident occurred in South Lanarkshire. A 55-year-old woman was also killed after being hit by a car in Rutherglen.

Police Scotland have issued an appeal on social media, and have asked witnesses to the Whifflet Street incident to come forward.

Sergeant John Tait, of Motherwell Road Policing, said: “Unfortunately, two fatal road accidents have occurred in the area in a short space of time. We would like to speak to anyone who was in the Whifflet Street area at this time, or who has dashcam footage of the incident, to call 101 and provide incident reference number 2982 dated January 13, 2022.”
