Music superstar and talk show host Kelly Clarkson joined NBC’s The Voice as a coach for season 14, which aired in spring 2018. Now some fans fear she will leave the show altogether.
During an Instagram Live session in which she answered questions from fans, Clarkson hinted that 2022 will see some changes to her career and that she’s working on big projects.

Clarkson responded to a fan question about where she plans to travel in 2022 by saying “at home… and at the beach.”
“I’ve decided that there will only be a few changes for me this year, but I can’t say that just yet,” Clarkson told viewers. “A few things are happening. I’ve been able to have more time just for me and my kids and still work where we can get away at the weekends and really do some fun stuff with my kids.”
She said her kids are currently at the age where they actually want to spend time with her, and she wants to “take advantage of that.”
Given how busy she’s been this year and how much time she wants to spend with her kids, it’s entirely possible that Clarkson is leaving The Voice. Of course, it’s not a done deal yet as the show has yet to announce the coaches for the show’s next season.
With all the changes she’s brought up, it’s not a huge leap to think Clarkson could return to another reality show like American Idol as ABC tries to bring back former contestants as mentors.
Clarkson has been teasing her upcoming divorce album for over a year, letting fans know she’s been working on her new music and first new album for quite some time.
She also said she’s working on two separate projects that “people have been asking about for a while,” though she couldn’t reveal any additional details about those projects.
“So I’ve got a lot of music that I’ve written over the past few years and hopefully … that’s one thing that I can pretty much say we’re going to put out,” she shared during the live.
The other thing she’s working on is something she thinks fans will be excited about.
She also spoke about potentially re-recording old albums like Taylor Swift has done, as she says her voice has gotten so much better and stronger over the past 20 years. However, she said she might run into a problem because she can’t listen to many of the songs she recorded early in her career.
Clarkson’s biggest song, “Since U Been Gone”, was composed by Dr. Luke produced, and it seemed like Clarkson got a clear shot at him during the Instagram Live session.
“Some of these songs … I can’t actually listen to,” Kelly said at the time. “Sometimes the producer keeps you there for so long. I get along 99% with all of humanity’s producers, but there’s a 1% that I’m just like – oh, you won’t let me leave this studio until I sing it exactly how you want it, with a like a yooohooo instead of you or something. That’s why I can’t listen to my own music. It’s just weird.”
The Voice has not yet been renewed for season 22. If the show is extended, it will return in the 2022 fall cycle, likely in mid-September.
