Jamie Lynn Spears breaks her silence. After her sister Britney Spears made the sometimes terrifying circumstances of her guardianship public, the 30-year-old now describes her point of view.
For 13 years, Britney Spears was mostly under the tutelage of her father, Jamie Spears. In court last year it finally came out what many had already suspected: During this time, the pop singer lived under sometimes unreasonable conditions. But now the 40-year-old can breathe a sigh of relief: she has been able to free herself from outside control.
Now that the musician is a free woman again, she raises her voice and settles accounts with those who, in her eyes, have wronged her. So she shot public not only against her father, but also against her mother Lynne Spears and her younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears. The latter recently unfollowed the mother of two on Instagram.
Jamie Lynn Spears has now also gone public after all the events and is now speaking very openly with the US magazine “People” about how she perceived the stage star’s guardianship.
“I had no say when guardianship was decided. My sister was going through a tough time, I was just a kid and that’s what I think a lot of people forget: I was just a kid going through my own shit.” Although she felt that something was wrong, she “couldn’t put it into words” at the time.
When the “Zoey 101” actress grew up, she was offered to become part of the guardianship, but she refused. Instead, she focused on her own established family. “Pinning those boundaries was very important,” she explains. She also emphasizes that she is her “own person” and that she wants to be perceived as such. She fought hard for the life that she has now built up.

Contrary to her sister’s allegations, the actress makes it clear: “I love and support my sister. It is clear that this was a painful process and I have to respect however she processes it.” At the same time she gives in: “You get to a point where you can’t help someone if they don’t want to be helped. If it’s harmful and unhealthy for you and your well-being, you have to go away.”
In 2008, when Britney was placed under guardianship after a public breakdown, her sister had their first child at the age of 17. Their daughter Maddie comes from a relationship with Casey Aldridge. Today the TV personality is married to Jamie Watson and welcomed daughter Ivey almost four years ago.
