Happy New Year for the Royals too. Prince William is now accepting the first dates of the young year. And it starts sporty: The 36-year-old pays tribute to various sports greats.
At some point every vacation comes to an end. Same with the royals. For Prince William, “everyday work” has begun again. As the first official engagement after the Christmas break, the Royal immediately threw himself into parade uniform and received several prominent people at Windsor Castle to award them a knightly order. William and his team shared photos from the appointment on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s official Instagram account.
Clive Lloyd, a former West Indies Cricket Team player and coach, received the title of Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for his services. This honor was also given to cricket star Eoin Morgan. Meanwhile, ex-rugby player Kevin Sinfield can call himself an Officer of the British Empire (OBE). Snooker player Reanne Evans and fitness guru Derrick “Mr. Motivator” Evans have been named Members of the British Empire (MBE).
Although the awards are high honours, they do not qualify for the title of sir or lady. This is reserved for the two highest knightly orders, Knight/Dame Grand Cross and Knight/Dame Commander. Only Clive Lloyd is allowed to call himself Sir because he was beaten to a Knight Bachelor in 2020.
The fact that Prince William was given this task can be taken as further evidence that he is preparing for his future role as king. Last year, Prince Charles had awarded the medals.
